The French Impressionist Henri Matisse’s paper ‘cut-outs’ is source of inspiration for my designs and artworks. The paper ‘cut-outs’ were created late in Matisse’s career. In his later years his mobility and eyesight meant that painting was increasingly challenging. He switched from the paintbrush to scissors, creating playful yet creative and elegant work cutting out shapes from coloured paper, arranging and gluing into stunning artwork, large and small. For smaller works, his could create the compositions and work solo. For the larger work, he had assistants, such as Jacqueline Duheme, to help bring the works to life.

A number of my artworks and design use this same technique. I find using a fine, sharp craft knife allows for more details.
